Thursday 25 July: We’ve explored the hall; now we’re going to wander around the grounds, in an effort to work up an appetite for ice creams… (very good they were too!)
Perkley in July
A walk from Much Wenlock, across the fields to the derelict farm at Perkley, past the camp sites near Bourton Westwood Farm, then down to the old railway track leading back to the start.

Lunch at Hanbury
…before rediscovering the interior of Hanbury Hall (we’ve been before, but not for a while). The lunch was light – a sausage bap and a bacon bap between us – but the hall was full of interest (I’d hate to have to do the housework – the dusting must be a nightmare!)
Dull evening? No!
There may be no sunshine but the hedges beside Stanley Lane and the old railway track are colourful this evening

Shade – to the woods!
It’s not exactly hot, but it’s much warmer than it’s been so far this year. A walk (mostly) in the cool shade of the Benthall Edge woodlands will be ideal!

On foot in the morning
… because it’s going to rain this afternoon. As ever at this time of year, there’s plenty of colour in the hedgerows around Willey

The colour of July
Up here, on the Wenlock Edge, it’s predominantly at the blue, indigo and violet end of the spectrum. There are pyramidal orchids by the dozen, along with hairy bellflowers, vetch and some rather flamboyant knapweed. It’s a colourful month in these parts.

It’s rainy at Ravenglass
It was certainly wet yesterday, 10 July, anyway. Just damp at first, but after our ride up to Dalegarth, it was so rainy that we had to take refuge in the Ratty Arms… It was a great day out despite the weather – read all about it, and view a selection of photos: Rainy Ravenglass on Geoff’s Rail Diaries
Damp Dalegarth
Wednesday 10 July: a trip to the 15″-gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. It’s the wettest part of England – need I explain? A most enjoyable (though very long) day out regardless of the weather. More to follow on Geoff’s Rail Diaries; in the meantime, here are the three locomotives which were in use yesterday, seen at a rather damp Dalegarth terminus
