We’re exploring today – quiet farm tracks which we’ve not trodden before, and paths through fields of ripe wheat. If the weather holds, they will very soon be stubble. As well as the usual enjoyable views, there are hundreds of butterflies, most of which are nervous, but one or two pose obligingly for the camera.

J > I recall a huge (but mothballed or disused) quarry in the region of this walk : there were public footpaths that in theory went straight over the edge of the quarry faces! What’s happened to that quarry, I wonder?
There’s more than one old quarry around here, with an unusable public footpath going through it… No shortage of quarries along the northern part of the Wenlock Edge.
