Clearing

…after a dull morning and a rainy lunchtime. It’s raining lightly when we leave home, but we have confidence in the weather forecast. Starting out from the car, there’s still a fine drizzle; within ten minutes, the sky’s clearing and we’re enjoying some winter sunshine. Almost back at the start, a magpie flies down and lands on an unconcerned sheep’s back – and then begins pecking at its head, no doubt relieving it of some unwelcome inhabitants… Eventually, it flies away. The sheep wanders off, oblivious.

November fog

It was thick this morning, but this afternoon the fog has mostly cleared. It’s still grey and misty though – no views of distant hills or glorious sunsets, but at least we’ll be able to see where we’re going. We’re walking past the Hurst Farm pools, down the drive at Aldenham and into Morville. Very quiet roads take us back to the start – and by 3.20pm, the light is going…

November skies

There was a yellow warning yesterday, for fog this morning. It was rather dull before lunch, and perhaps a little misty, but not foggy. After lunch, the clouds cleared to reveal a blue sky, with some wonderful wispy cirrus. We’d better get out there and enjoy it! The light becomes warmer as we walk (so do we! It’s a cold day), and as we return towards the car, the lands to the south-west are positively glowing.

November mists

Yesterday, I said “November days don’t get much better”. I didn’t know how good today would be. A clear blue sky, no wind, a hard frost – and mist in all the hollows, catching the light and the eye. Later, a bank of thin high cloud drifted across, lending a different feel to the day. What will tomorrow bring? (Fog, according to the Met. Office…)

Meadowley skyline

After a rainy start to the day, it’s a fine sunny afternoon. We start out down the hill, and at its foot we take the quiet road through Underton, then back up the lane in dank woods to reach the start of the ridge at Meadowley. From the track along that ridge, there’s a most pleasant panorama of the Clee hills, the sun behind them in mid-afternoon. November days don’t get much better!

Chatwall and Enchmarsh

Walking from Cardington, along quiet lanes (and a diversion across the fields on our return down the lane from Willstone, as the road’s closed and blocked at the ford). It’s a fine day, with lots of blue sky, cold but hardly any wind – and there’s a dry and well-placed bench on Yell Bank, for a mini-lunch break with a wonderful view – perfect!

There and back again

Hurst Farm – along the lane. We’d thought of the route across the field, past Shore Pool, but there’s a new crop coming up and the path hasn’t been restored yet. Similarly, we could have kept going from the end of the track to make a circular walk via Shirlett Lane. Another day, perhaps – it’s looking gloomy and there’s rain on the way…
