What an impressive ruin. The later (round) tower looks a different colour to the earlier (square) keep. Must have used a different quarry for the stone when the castle was enlarged.
I understand that the stone for the original castle came from the excavations for the moat – yes, the difference in the style of the buildings is quite striking too.
